The city was created 55 years ago in 1969.

History

The Chumash tribe originally inhabited the area for centuries. Rancho Simi land grant was established in the 1700s by the Spanish. Simi Valley officially incorporated as a city in 1969.

Early growth was tied to the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles. Affordable homes and proximity to LA attracted many commuters and families to settle in Simi Valley.

Economy

Major employers include Amgen, Bank of America, Simi Valley Hospital, Ventura County, and Southern California Edison. Civic and retail jobs are also big sectors.

Various industries have offices in Simi Valley due to lower costs and taxes compared to LA including insurance, e-commerce, and defense contractors. Household incomes are higher than average.
