City of Lynn: In Massachusetts, Lynn is the 9th largest municipality and the largest town in Essex County. Located on the ocean of the Atlantic, 3. Lynn is part of Greater Boston's urban inner core, 7 miles (6. 0 km) north of the Boston City Line at Suffolk Downs. Settled in 1629 by Europeans, Lynn is the Commonwealth's 5th oldest colonial settlement. An early industrial hub, due to its historical reputation for crime and vice, Lynn has long been colloquially referred to as the "City of Sin".
