The city was created 153 years ago in 1870.

Sandy is a city located in Salt Lake County, Utah. The area was first settled in the 1850s by Mormon pioneers.

It was originally known as Willow Creek and then Sandy Station after the railroad stop established there in 1872. In 1893, the city was incorporated as Sandy City.

Sandy remained a small, agricultural town focused on farming and cattle ranching up through the 1950s. After WWII, Sandy began transforming into a suburban bedroom community.

Rapid growth took place from the 1970s onward. Sandy's population now exceeds 96,000 residents, making it the sixth largest city in Utah.
