Mount Vernon is a city located in the county of Westchester in the U.S. state of New York.

Mount Vernon, New York, is a city in Westchester County, New York. It is an inner suburb of New York City and immediately to the north of the borough of the Bronx. As of the 2020 census, Mount Vernon had a population of 73,893, making it the eighth most populous city in the state.

Mount Vernon has two major sections—the downtown business district and the residential neighborhood known as North End. The downtown area features many restaurants and shops along with office buildings that house various businesses including law firms and insurance agencies. The North End is made up of mostly single-family homes with some multi-family apartment buildings scattered throughout.

Mount Vernon has two major sections. The downtown area (or Downtown) lies on the east side of the Hudson River in southern Westchester County at the head of navigation on the Hudson River as it flows southward to New York Harbor at its confluence with the East River and Upper New York Bay at The Narrows between Brooklyn and Staten Island. The other section lies on the west side of the river in northern Westchester County, separated from Lower Manhattan by The Bronx and from Upper Manhattan by a steep bluff that rises up to about 100 feet (30 m) above sea level. Because of this separation from Manhattan's western neighborhoods by both topography and politics, Mount Vernon is frequently associated with areas such as Pelham Bay Park, Throgs Neck (an enclave within Pelham Bay Park), Co-op City, Pelham Gardens and Morris Park that are actually part of other nearby communities like Bronxville or Pelham Manor. 

Mount Vernon also has two minor sections—the industrial section known as South End and the industrial and commercial section known as East Side.
