The town of Greenburgh dates back to the late 17th century when it was still wilderness and farmland. The area was slowly settled and developed over the next centuries.
Greenburgh was officially established in 1788 and named after a family called the Greenburgs who owned land in the area. By the mid-1900s, Greenburgh transformed into a commuter suburb of NYC with the construction of the Sprain Brook Parkway.
