Cohasset is a city located in the county of Norfolk in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. Its population at the 2010 census was 7,542 and a population density of 239 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 8,529 inhabitants.
The city was created 377 years ago in 1646.
The town is named after Mt. Cohasset, which was a part of the original town boundary and also gives its name to two villages within Cohasset: Cohasset Village and South Shore Beach (also known as Ocean Grove). The town has three other villages: Highland Beach (also known as South Shore Beach), North Cohasset, and West Cohasset.
Cohasset's annual town meeting takes place on the first Monday of May at Memorial Hall; Town elections are held every March. The current moderator of the annual town meeting is Mark Hickey. The current chairwoman of the board of selectmen is Ellen Smith-Doyle.[1]
Cohasset is a member of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). It hosts an annual Fourth of July parade alongside several other communities in Norfolk County.
Cohasset has two beaches open to public use: South Shore Beach (Ocean Grove) and North. The town is known for its beautiful beaches on the South Shore of Boston. There are also plenty of parks and other recreational areas where you can let your kids run free and explore!
