Prior to European settlement, the area around Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish was inhabited by Native American tribes like the Duwamish and Snoqualmie. White settlers began homesteading in Bellevue in the 1860s.
Bellevue was incorporated as a city in 1953. Its early growth was fueled by the establishment of large companies like Boeing, Microsoft, T-Mobile, and Expedia.
