The city was created 142 years ago in 1881.
Windsor is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. The town was originally founded in 1882 as New Liberty Colony along the Cache la Poudre River.
In 1899, the name was changed to Windsor after the town of Windsor, England. The town was officially incorporated in 1890.
Windsor served as an agricultural community known for its sugar beets, wheat, dairy, corn, and alfalfa. The Great Western Sugar Company factory bolstered the local economy.
In the 1960s, the town saw growth as a residential community for commuters to nearby Greeley and Fort Collins. Population grew from 1,700 in 1960 to over 18,000 by 2000.
