History

The first European settlement in the area was the Spanish Mission Santa Clara established in 1777. After California became part of the U.S., Santa Clara grew as an agricultural community.

In the 1950s, the newly created Stanford Industrial Park helped launch the electronics and semiconductor industries in Santa Clara. Major tech firms soon followed including Intel, Applied Materials, and Nvidia.

As Silicon Valley emerged, Santa Clara transitioned into a tech hub and center of innovation. High-tech manufacturing and services dominate the local economy today.
