Saint Augustine is a city located in the county of Saint Johns in the U.S. state of Florida. Its population at the 2010 census was 12,975 and a population density of 392 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 16,518 inhabitants.
The city was created 459 years ago in 1564.
St. Augustine is known for its Spanish colonial architecture, ocean beaches and wildlife sanctuaries. It's also called the oldest city in the U.S.
The city was founded by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés in 1565 and named after his patron saint, Augustine of Hippo. The Castillo de San Marcos, a 17th-century Spanish stone fortress with views of the St. Augustine Inlet, is one of the city's main attractions. Anastasia State Park is a protected wildlife sanctuary that has many trails for hiking or biking. It also has an observation tower that provides panoramic views of the surrounding area.
The city is located on the northeast coast of Florida and has a population of 15,065 people (as of 2020).
