Purcell is a city in and the county seat of McClain County, Oklahoma, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 5,884. The 2020 population is listed as 6,420, which has grown to the 67th largest Oklahoma municipality. It is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area.
In 1907, it became the first city in Oklahoma to have electricity and every year since then it has hosted an annual Christmas Lighting Festival during which every house and business displays Christmas lights.
Purcell is located at (35.747611, -97.967240). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 35.74 square kilometers (13.86 sq mi), all land.
Purcell has a number of attractions including its many parks like Acres Park and Lake View Park.
The town also hosts an annual festival called "Oklahoma's Largest Halloween Party", which takes place on the last weekend in October each year at Lake View Park and includes live music performances from local musicians as well as food vendors who sell everything from hot dogs to funnel cakes."
In 2012, Purcell was named one of the "Top 100 Best Small Towns in America," by CNN Money Magazine.
