Newfield is a city located in the county of Gloucester in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Its population at the 2010 census was 1,553 and a population density of 344 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 1,543 inhabitants.
The city was created 100 years ago in 1923.
Newfield is a borough in Gloucester County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 1,553, reflecting a decline of 63 from the 1,616 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 24 from the 1,592 counted in the 1990 Census.
Newfield was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 8, 1924, from portions of Deptford Township. The borough was named for Henry M. Field (1835–1906), who owned most of the land that became Newfield and established its first post office in 1878.
The settlement was originally called "Fields" until he renamed it for himself following his election as president of the Camden & Amboy Railroad Company. The town continued to grow through much of the 20th century with several large farms and estates established in its rural areas along with many large Victorian homes that were built along its main boulevard during this time period that still stand today as well as several large estates located along River Road.
