Newberry is a city located in the county of Alachua in the U.S. state of Florida. Its population at the 2010 census was 4,950. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 6,368 inhabitants.

The city was created 135 years ago in 1888.

Newberry is a city located in the southwest corner of Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,342 according to the 2020 Census Much of the city borders neighboring Gilchrist County, to the west. The current Mayor is Jordan Marlowe.

The city was named after Newberry Creek, which runs through it. The creek was named for Dr. James A. Newberry who owned land in the area at one time.

Newberry has a total area of 155 km² (60 sq mi). It has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification: Cfa), with hot and wet summers and mild, drier winters. 

Newberry is home to several major institutions including:

-Newberry College (private liberal arts college)

-Citrus County School of Nursing & Health Sciences (public magnet school)

-Newberry Technical Center (public technical school)
