New Braunfels is a city in Comal and Guadalupe Counties, Texas. It was established in 1845 by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels of Germany.

Prince Solms founded the city as a German immigrant settlement. The Adelsverein organized hundreds of German immigrants to settle the land through the late 1840s.

New Braunfels was one of the first German settlements in Texas. The settlers cultivated the land, established commerce, and constructed architectural landmarks.
