Miami Gardens was incorporated in 2003 after voters from separate unincorporated neighborhoods approved combining into a new city.
It encompasses areas formerly known as Carol City, Norland, Bunche Park, Lake Lucerne, Scott Lake, and Andover. The new city formed to gain more local control over zoning and governance.
Today Miami Gardens is establishing its own unique identity as an inclusive, family-friendly community.

The city is home to the Hard Rock Stadium - home of the Miami Dolphins NFL team and University of Miami football team. Other draws are Calder Casino & Race Track and nearby Sun Life Stadium.
