McLennan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 234,906 and a population density of 86 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 259,730 inhabitants. Its county seat is Waco. The county was created 174 years ago in 1849.
McLennan County is located in central Texas along the Brazos River. It was established in 1850 and named for Neil McLennan, an early settler and Ranger captain.
The city of Waco became the county seat in 1849. Waco began as a frontier fort and trading post, eventually growing into a commercial hub in central Texas.
