Madill is a city in and the county seat of Marshall County, Oklahoma, United States. It was named in honor of George Alexander Madill, an attorney for the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway. The population at the 2010 census was 3,770, an increase of 10.8 percent from 3,410 at the 2000 census.
The city was founded as a result of the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway building a line through Indian Territory in 1899–1900. In 1910, Madill was designated county seat of Marshall County and incorporated as a city.
The climate in Madill is milder than most locations in America thanks to its elevation (240 metres above sea level) and proximity to two major lakes: Lake Texoma and Lake Murray. Madill's population grew to 1,300 by 1921 due to its position as a regional trade center for cotton and grain products produced by local farmers and ranchers. During the Great Depression (1929–39), however, railroads were hard hit financially because they could not raise rates high enough to offset losses from falling commodity prices and reduced demand for transport services from shippers whose businesses had failed during hard economic times for farm families who were struggling with low crop yields due to drought conditions across much of central and western Oklahoma state during those
