History
The Antelope Valley was originally home to Native American tribes before Spanish missionaries arrived in the late 18th century. In 1876, a community named Lancaster sprang up within Antelope Valley when the Southern Pacific Railroad established a rail stop.
Lancaster incorporated as a city in 1977 and saw rapid expansion and population growth starting in the 1980s. The desert climate and affordable land attracted new residents and aerospace companies.
Aerospace Industry
Lancaster is home to major aerospace operations including Edwards Air Force Base, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman. The defense and aeronautics industries anchor the local economy.
