History
The Potawatomi Indians first inhabited the area. The city was originally known as Southport when it was established in the 1830s.
It was incorporated as the village of Kenosha in 1850 and later chartered as a city in 1883.
Kenosha grew as a major shipping and manufacturing center. Auto production facilities opened in the early 1900s.
