Located northwest of Seattle, Island County is situated in the heart of Washington's scenic Puget Sound region. The county's two largest islands, Whidbey and Camano, are home to several small waterfront communities and historic towns worth exploring.
Coupeville is the county seat of Island County, located on central Whidbey Island. It was founded by Captain Thomas Coupe in 1852 and became a thriving port town. Today, Coupeville's historic downtown makes it one of the most picturesque and walkable towns in the Pacific Northwest. Visitors are drawn to its shops, restaurants, museums, and antique stores. The surrounding Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve preserves Coupeville's 19th century character.
Situated on the northern end of Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor originated as a fishing village. It is now the largest city in Island County with over 22,000 residents. The city's growth is due to the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island being located just west of Oak Harbor. The city has several marinas, beaches, parks and panoramic mountain views. The Pacific Northwest Naval Air Museum is a top local attraction.

Stanwood, located on the mainland side, is its nearest hub. Those visiting Camano Island enjoy its beaches, parks, hiking trails and peaceful surroundings.
