The city was created 176 years ago in 1847.

Georgetown is a city in central Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Williamson County, and it is located just north of Austin. The city has a population of 75,470 (2020), and it is the sixth-largest city in the state. 

Georgetown was founded in 1847 by settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The city was named for George Washington's Georgetown estate. It was incorporated as a town on March 4, 1851, and as a city on February 7, 1873.

The city has several historic homes, including the Victorian-era Old Williamson County Jail and the 1911 Courthouse. The Williamson Museum explores local history and culture at its location in the former Masonic Lodge Hall at 105 E. 6th Street. East, Southwestern University is known for its Fountainwood Observatory; it also has an observatory at Fort Hood near Killeen in Bell County. Blue Hole Park features a lagoon along the San Gabriel River; it is located at 2300 W Blue Hole Rd., Georgetown TX 78628 (512) 930-8279). To the south, Inner Space Cavern is a vast cave with hundreds of stalactites; it can be found at 1202 S FM 2821 Rd., Round Rock TX 786
