Fairfield is a city located in Solano County, California, midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. It was founded in 1859 and incorporated in 1903. With a population of around 115,000, it is one of the largest cities in Solano County.
History and Economy of Fairfield
Fairfield was founded as an agricultural community surrounded by farms and ranches. While agriculture played a major role early on, the economy diversified over the years. Today, top employers include the Air Force, Anheuser-Busch, Jelly Belly Candy Company, and Travis Air Force Base.
The city has grown significantly as the Bay Area expanded. It remains a popular residential community for commuters to San Francisco and Oakland. The presence of Travis Air Force Base also helped spur development in the city.
