Fairbanks is a city located in the county of Fairbanks North Star Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. Its population at the 2010 census was 31,535. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 30,696 inhabitants.

Fairbanks is a home rule city and the borough seat of the Fairbanks North Star Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. Fairbanks is the largest and coldest city in the Interior region of Alaska and the second largest in the state. It is situated in the upper northwest region of Alaska at an elevation of 136 metres (446 feet) above sea level near the Chena River. Fairbanks' location along a major transportation route dates to 1910, when Gold Creek was used as a supply trail for prospectors during the Alaska Gold Rush.
The city has been known as the "Golden Heart City" and the "Gateway to Alaska's Interior" since its founding in 1901. In fact, it was the first city in Alaska to have electricity—and it still does!
Fairbanks has a population of 31,427 and covers an area of 84.49 km². The elevation is 136 m above sea level, so if you're thinking about visiting this winter wonderland, be sure to pack warm clothes!
In addition to being one of Alaska's major cities, Fairbanks also serves as a regional hub for tourism because of its proximity to Denali National Park and Reserve, which is located approximately 100 miles (160 km) south-southeast of Fairbanks. The city hosts many festivals, including: Tanana Valley State Fair, Alaska Folk Festival, Alaska International JazzFest, and Winterfest. Several nearby rural Alaska Native villages are accessible by road from Fairbanks.
