History
The town was founded in 1908 and was named after John Young Chapin, a land developer from Edinburgh, Scotland. The name was later changed to Edinburg to more closely match the Scottish spelling.
Edinburg was mainly an agricultural community up until the 1920s. The introduction of irrigation systems allowed the region to grow into a major producer of citrus fruit, cotton, sugarcane, and other crops.
