Dormont is a city located in the county of Allegheny in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Its population at the 2010 census was 8,593 and a population density of 11,307 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 8,224 inhabitants.
Dormont is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States and is part of the Pittsburgh Metro Area. The population was 8,593 at the 2010 census. Dormont includes young professionals, working families, and retirees.
Dormont was originally settled by people from New England. It was incorporated as a borough in 1929 when it separated from the City of Pittsburgh. It was named after the town of Dormansville, New York which grew up around a tavern that had been established by a man named John Dorman who had purchased the land from Joseph Gormley sometime before 1797. The borough of Dormont was named after this tavern upon its incorporation into a borough.
The community is bordered by Mount Lebanon to the north and Penn Hills to the south. It is home to South Hills Beauty Academy, one of only two beauty schools in Allegheny County.
The communities of Dormont include: Dormont Junction (Dormont Junction Business District), Mt. Lebanon Junction (Mt. Lebanon Junction Business District), Stony Brook Manor and Stonybrook Village (Stonybrook Village Business District), Montour Ridge and Mt Washington Heights (Montour Ridge Commercial Corridor).
It's a young and diverse community with plenty to explore.
