Concord, New Hampshire is the capital city of New Hampshire. It’s home to the State House, a gold-domed building dating from 1819. There’s also a visitor center and Hall of Flags. Music, comedy, dance and theater are staged at the Capitol Center for the Arts. The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is a science museum with interactive space-themed exhibits and a planetarium. The Susan N. McLane Audubon Center has trails and wildlife.
Concord is located in Merrimack County in central New Hampshire, United States, on the Merrimack River about 8 miles (13 km) south of its confluence with the Piscataqua River and 24 miles (39 km) north of Boston, Massachusetts. Concord's population was 43,383 at the 2000 census. It is home to Concord Hospital, which is part of Partners HealthCare System.
Concord is a great place to visit. The city is home to the State House, which was built in 1819 and has a gold dome on top. Inside, there's a visitor center and Hall of Flags where you can see all the flags from countries that have had an ambassador from New Hampshire. The Capitol Center for the Arts is a great place to catch music, comedy and dance performances. The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is a science museum with interactive space-themed exhibits and a planetarium.
The Susan N. McLane Audubon Center has trails and wildlife displays where you can learn more about local plants and animals. The elevation in Concord is 88 meters (288 feet) above sea level, so make sure you pack some warm clothes if you plan on visiting during winter months!
The town motto, "Concordia res parvae crescunt", is attributed to famous native son Daniel Webster (1802–1852), who was born in North Bow (now Merrimac). Concord is home to numerous parks and nature areas within its borders and beyond—including some regional parks—including Barrett Park and several conservation areas.
