History of Murfreesboro

Murfreesboro was founded in 1811 and named after a colonel who fought in the American Revolutionary War. It served as the capital of Tennessee from 1818 to 1826 before the capital was relocated to Nashville.

Murfreesboro was also the site of major battles during the Civil War such as the Battle of Stones River. This earned the city the nickname “The Battlefield of the Civil War.”

After the war, Murfreesboro continued growing as an agricultural trading center and railroad hub for the Middle Tennessee region.
