Cedar Rapids is a city located in the county of Linn in the U.S. state of Iowa. Its population at the 2010 census was 126,326 and a population density of 677 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 134,027 inhabitants.
The city was created 175 years ago in 1848.
Cedar Rapids was established in 1838 along the Cedar River and incorporated as a city in 1849. It was originally called Rapids City but was soon renamed Cedar Rapids.
The city's location near fast-moving water allowed it to become a center for flour and oat milling. Other industries like meatpacking, ready-mix concrete and farm equipment also drove Cedar Rapids' growth in the late 1800s.
