Castle Rock is a city in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 65,176 at the 2020 United States Census. It is named for the prominent, castle-like rock formations near the intersection of Castle Parkway and Highway 74. The City of Castle Rock is a Home Rule Municipality with a council-manager form of government.
The town was founded in 1874 by William H. Tucker as he established a homestead along the banks of Castle Creek in southern Colorado. It was originally named "Tucker City."
Castle Rock is located about 20 miles (32 km) north of downtown Denver and 15 miles (24 km) south of Colorado Springs along Interstate 25. Castle Rock is known as an affluent bedroom community for its proximity to those two cities as well as its access to outdoor activities in the greater Denver metropolitan area.
The town's economy has been historically based upon natural resources and tourism. It is also home to a large number of high-technology companies supporting the defense industry that make up more than one quarter of the town's employment base.
Castle Rock has grown rapidly over recent years—by 2020 its population had risen by 51% since 2010 to reach 73,158 people!
