Bristol, Connecticut is a suburban city located in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. It is 120 miles southwest from Boston and 100 miles northeast of New York City. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 60,833.
Bristol is bordered by Plainville to the north, Simsbury to the east, Farmington to the south and Burlington to the west. The main roads through Bristol are Route 72 and Route 10. Known as "The Birthplace of America's Flag," Bristol was incorporated in 1785 as "Bristol Village" and has been home to many famous Americans including Aaron Burr, George Clinton and Ethan Allen. In addition to being known as a center for manufacturing (especially watches), Bristol is also known for its historic architecture and beautiful parks.
Bristol has a total area of 69.44 square kilometers (26 sq mi), of which 22.4 km² (8 sq mi) is land and 48 km² (19 sq mi) (60%) is water. The city sits on the shoreline of Long Island Sound at the mouth of the Mount Hope River where it empties into Mount Hope Bay at its border with Newport.
Bristol's name is pronounced BREE-stul or BRIST-ul, like Bridget but with TR instead of D.
