Bexar County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,714,773 and a population density of 534 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 2,026,823 inhabitants. Its county seat is San Antonio. The county was created 200 years ago in 1824.
Bexar County is located in south central Texas and contains the city of San Antonio. It was formed in 1836 during the Republic of Texas era. The county was named after the city of Béxar, an early Spanish settlement that preceded San Antonio.
The San Antonio area was first explored in the 17th century by Spanish expeditions. The Alamo Mission was established here in 1718. Early settlers raised cattle, sheep, and goats. Bexar County was part of the disputed territory during the Texas Revolution in the 1830s.
