Bastrop
Bastrop is the largest city and county seat, located along the Colorado River with around 10,000 residents. It has a historic downtown district with shops, restaurants, and attractions like the Bastrop County Museum.
Elgin lies along the railroad tracks east of Bastrop. Around 10,500 people live in this city, which calls itself the "Sausage Capital of Texas." The Elgin Sausage Festival celebrates its sausage-making history.
Smithville is located along Highway 71 in the western part of Bastrop County, with around 4,000 residents. Its history is intertwined with the railroad. Today it draws ecotourists to the Colorado River and Bastrop State Park.
McDade
