History of Parker County

Parker County was established in 1855 and named after pioneer Isaac Parker. Settlers were drawn to the area for rich soil and scenic hills.

In the late 1800s, the railroad expanded through Weatherford, boosting the economy. The discovery of oil and minerals like barite also contributed to growth in the 20th century.

Ranching has long been an important Parker County industry. Cattle drives traveled along the Chisholm Trail which passed through the county.
