The city was created 133 years ago in 1890.

Fishers is a suburb of Indianapolis located in Hamilton County. It was originally called Fishers Switch when settled in the 1870s. Fishers saw population growth starting in the 1990s and officially became a city in 2014.

Fishers has a mayor-council form of government. The city’s first mayor Scott Fadness was elected in 2015. The city council consists of 7 members who represent different districts.

Economy

Fishers has experienced rapid economic development over the past 20 years. The headquarters of Launch Fishers fosters local entrepreneurs and startups. Major employers include Roche Diagnostics, Interactive Intelligence, and CNO Financial Group.

Geography

Fishers spans nearly 30 square miles of land northeast of Indianapolis. There are two main waterways: Fall Creek and White River. The terrain is relatively flat. The climate is humid continental with cold winters.
