Arvada is a city located in the county of Jefferson in the U.S. state of Colorado. Its population at the 2010 census was 106,433. After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 121,936 inhabitants.

The city was created 165 years ago in 1858.

Arvada is a suburban city located northwest of Denver in Jefferson and Adams counties, Colorado. With over 120,000 residents, it is the seventh most populous city in the state.

History

Arvada was established in 1870 with the discovery of gold. It was named after Hiram Arvada Haskin, a pioneer settler. The city grew steadily as a mining settlement and agricultural community.

Notable events include the establishment of the Olde Town Arvada historic district in the early 1900s and the opening of the Denver-Arvada Tramway streetcar in 1908. Arvada officially incorporated as a city in 1904.

Economy

Arvada has seen rapid growth in recent decades as a Denver suburb. Major employers include Lockheed Martin, Molson Coors Beverage Company, Charles Schwab, and Jefferson County Public Schools.
