Anchorage Municipality is a county located in the U.S. state of Alaska. As of the 2010 census, the population was 291,826. After 10 years in 2020 county had an estimated population of 287,095 inhabitants. The county was created 110 years ago in 1913.

Anchorage is a unified home rule municipality located in south-central Alaska along the Cook Inlet. The city was founded in 1914 when a tent city was established during the construction of the Alaska Railroad. Anchorage was officially incorporated in 1920 and quickly became an important transportation hub.

Its strategic location made Anchorage a key site for military bases and air transport during World War II. The discovery of oil in 1968 also fueled growth and Anchorage still serves as headquarters for many oil companies today.
