Alvin is a city located in the county of Brazoria in the U.S. state of Texas. Its population at the 2010 census was 24,236 and a population density of 365 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 27,140 inhabitants.

The city was created 131 years ago in 1892.

Alvin, Texas is a town located in the state of Texas. It is a small community that has a population of 26,592 people. The city is home to Alvin Community College and is located within the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area and Brazoria County.

The town was originally settled by German immigrants in 1833 and was named after one of its leaders, Carl Hilmar Callesen. The original name for the town was "Alvinville." It wasn't until 1837 when the name was changed to "Alvin" in honor of Alvin Adams, who had founded the town's first newspaper.

In 1892 Alvin College was opened but then closed in 1931 due to financial difficulties. In 1943 the college reopened as Alvin Junior College and became a part of the University of Houston system in 1968 before being renamed again as Alvin Community College in 1982.

In recent years Alvin has become one of Houston's most diverse neighborhoods with significant populations from India, Vietnam, China and Mexico along with other countries including France
